The Butala project seeks to support the preservation of the cultural identity of rural communities in Zambia. It is part of a study into the effects of digitization and the potential to retain cultural elements while developing media culture. I collaborated with film teams within the Lala community, which produce media content from a local perspective. Topics included: how to cultivate new types of crops, beekeeping, guidance for HIV/Aids patients, proverbs in spoken language, clan histories, care for orphans, spirit possession rituals, marriages customs and funeral rites.
